In the summer of 2019 I joined the Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute (BDRI) for an internship. This took me to the small town of O'Grove in Spain.

A typical day consisted of either boat-based surveys along the Galician coast, land-based surveys, or analysing data in the office. During this time I obtained skills in bioacoustics analysis, photo-identification and database entry, as well as cetacean and marine bird identification.

One day was especially memorisable: During 16 hours of surveys monitoring marine mammals along the southern waters of Galicia we sighted 4 fin whales, 7 pilot whales, 120 bottlenose dolphins, more than 200 common dolphins, and dozens of harbour porpoises. Enjoy the pictures below!
