During my first weekend on Curacao, I had the absolute pleasure to accompany these little hatchlings to the ocean.
Together with the local Sea Turtle Conservation we monitored the beaches of Curacao' military area for turtle nests. Luckily, the experienced Sabine spotted a nest that was covered with stones, started digging and got surprised by nearly 10 turtles that were struggling to find their way out.
As if a stony beach wasn't difficult enough for these little creatures, more obstacles were posed by all the plastic accumulated along the shore. What is even more concerning is that this military beach is forbidden for tourists, meaning that the waste is from all around the world brought there by waves and currents. My despair turned to anger. My anger developed into empowerment. I took my video footage from that day and compiled a short video for social media hoping it will raise awareness for one of humanity's many wrongdoings.
